More Hallowe'en data

We have been voting as to our favourite Hallowe'en things.
The results are interesting.
We love chatting about the different groups, which is the largest/smallest group, how many more/less are in each group, how many altogether etc.
We are really getting good at interpreting data.

Hallowe'en Data Chart

Today for Maths we made a data chart of our favourite Halloween things. It was great fun and we had to wait until near the very end to see which thing would win!!The witches and bats were battling for 1st position, but in the end the bats won!! We talked about how the bats were the most popular, and how the ghosts were the least popular. We counted how many children chose each thing, and how many more children would be needed to pick the skeletons, ghosts, pumpkins and witches for them to draw or win. We are very good at interpreting data charts now!!!

Number line activities

We are loving Maths Week.
Today we did some numberline jumping.
Teacher told us a sum like 2+3=?
We had to figure out where to start on the numberline (2).
Then everyone had to guess, then show teacher on our number fans, where we think we would land if we took the next number (3) of jumps.
We loved guessing and we loved jumping.
Numberlines are fun!
We also made a human number line and then teacher called out a story like:
I had 2 fish and dad bought me 3 more.  How many fish did I have then.
If we guessed or figured out the right answer then we could take the place on the numberline of the child who was holding this number.
Some of the stories were happy stories (addition) and some were much sadder (subtraction).
We also had turns at finding the number before, after or between numbers.
We are good at number line quizes!

More classroom activities for Maths Week

We used a counting stick to figure out where numbers are on the number line.
We particularly like using number fans to show teacher our best guess at each answer.
We use a tin and crayons to play the "sound of a number "game where teacher drops crayons into the tin and we have to guess and show teacher on our fans what we think is the number of crayons in the tin.  Sometimes teacher makes it harder by adding or taking a few crayons at the end.
We love the folens online digital games for the whiteboard.
Here you can see us working on our shape activities:  Doodle bugs, geoboards,
Lucky duck
Jack and the beanstalk shapes game
and one of our favourites: Shape snap!
