Number bonds: The story of 5

We are getting really good at writing out number stories.
We use lots of different manipulatives and our whiteboards to record our findings.
We will get lots of practice at this over the next few weeks.
We are already very good at the story of 10.  That is because we are used to counting our golden tickets and telling teacher how many more we need to get a prize!

Number bonds: The story of 4

Today we were learning all about making the number 4.
Teacher showed us all the ways in which we could write the story of 4.
4+0=4, 3+1=4, 2+2=4, 1+3=4, 0+4=4
Here are the things we used to help us divide up 4 things into two groups.

All about shapes

We are learning all about 2D flat shapes and  3D shapes that stick out.
We had fun playing our 2D and 3D loop game.
Do you know which shape is a sphere, a cylinder, a cube and a cuboid, a cone, a triangular pyramid, a square pyramid, a triangular prism and a hexagonal prism?  We are getting good at knowing which is which, and at guessing which shape teacher is holding when she gives us some clues.
Do you know the names of our 2D flat shapes?
We can recognize a rectangle, a semicircle, a pentagon, a diamond, a heart, a star, a square, an oval, a circle a hexagon and a triangle.

Find and count

We used another new maths game.
We really enjoyed it.
We had to find and count different things.
When we found them all we turned the card over and could check if we got all the answers right.
We were correct every time!

Hexie snaps

We got a new maths game.
It is called "Hexie Snaps" because all the pieces are hexagons.
We followed directions to make a very cool hexie snap rocket.
We are getting good at following directions.

Favourite planet data chart

We have been studying lots about space.  Today we all chose our favourite planet and we made a great data chart of it.
Earth is the most popular planet in our class and Mercury is the least popular.
We enjoyed counting and comparing all the different choices.

Measuring Maths

Today we were learning how to measure the length and width of things using our hand span and feet.
We traced around our hands and feet. We cut them out. We estimated first. We measured our tables, the window, even the board. We had lots of fun.
