Maths, Data, Weather pictogram, Senior infants

Wednesday, September 29, 2010
Every day this month we have watched the weather. We recorded whether it was sunny, cloudy, rainy, wet, cold, snowy or windy. We also used a thermomether to take the temperature at 1pm each day, and used a rain gauge to record the morning's rainfall. Today we made a tally of the different types of weather, then we made a pictogram of our results. It looks like this:
We had a chat about which type of weather we had most, least, what would our chart probably look like if it was a winter or summer chart rather than an autumn chart. We love recording the weather every day!

Matching activities, Junior Infants

This week in Maths we are matching pairs....like shoes, socks, gloves. We matched objects that were the same. Ms. Crotty gave us an object and we had to race against the clock to try and find another object that matched. You can see some of the objects we matched. We matched the same cars, the same straws, the same pencils, the same crayons. We did some matching activities on the whiteboard.

Sorting in September, Junior Infants

This week we are sorting different materials in the classroom. We are sorting blocks, straws, animals, bricks, teddys. We are sorting them into different colour groups-blue, yellow, red, orange, green. We work in groups and help each other to sort the materials.

Big and small, counting to 10, Senior Infants

We made sets of big and small things at our tables recently. The children also counted out ten sticks and then experimented to see what sort of things ten sticks could make- the variety was great.....from trees to rockets to flowers.

Sorting in Junior Infants

We were hard at work today in junior infants. We sorted lots of objects. First we sorted the objects according to colour. We were very good at sorting.

We were so good at matching the objects by colour that we matched some objects according to size and others according to shape.

Counting stick

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010We use the counting stick in Maths, for practicing saying our numbers between 0 and 10. Each number has its place on the stick, and we say the number as teacher (or a helper) points to the stick. It is fun saying our numbers like this. We can also tell teacher which number comes before or after another, or which number is in between two numbers.

Human Numberline

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Teacher gave out number cards (numbers 0 to 9). We had to arrange ourselves into a human numberline. Then we gave orders to each other: Can you get me the number 7? Can you find the number after 5? Can you get the number between 7 and 9? Can you find the number before 1? When we found the right number we were able to change places. This game is a lot of fun.
