Measuring - Capacity
It is really interesting finding out how much liquid a container holds. This is called "capacity".
We had fun today measuring how many cups of water were in different containers. We had lots of chances to guess before we did the measuring.

Mathematical Bugs
Thursday, April 30th, 2009 We had a great maths lesson on sorting, using our collection of bugs. We sorted the bugs into lots of different groups according to
type of bug
colour of bug
good or bad bugs
live in Ireland or not
whether they are plain or multicoloured
whether they are insects or not
whether they can fly or not It was a great chance to talk about bugs, and to practice our sorting, all at the same time.

Maths - Learning about shapes
We have been learning a lot about 2D shapes: squares, circles, rectangles, triangles, ovals and hexagons
and 3D shapes: cubes, cuboids, spheres, cylinders, triangular prisms, pyramids and cones.
Here are some of the activities we play at Maths time to help us find out more about the shapes. We play with logic attribute blocks, Make "n" break game, tangrams, guess the 3D shape and the shapes loop game.
When we have free play time in the morning we like making shapes from some of the other activities too.
