Sorting Bottle Tops

Sorting Bottle Tops
Wednesday, 7th May, 2008
Teacher has a collection of bottle tops. We sorted them according to colour, into a big set and a small set, into flip or twist lids, into different types of lids, and into thick and thin lids. It was really interesting.

Logic Attribute Block Dominoes

Logic Blocks
Tuesday, 29th April, 2008
We laid out the attribute logic blocks on the floor. We played a kind of Domino game with them.
We could change only one thing from the piece before…..either size, shape, colour or thickness.
This is what our finished domino looked like.

Bugs and Insects: Sorting and Classifying

Bugs and Insects
Friday, 4th April, 2008
We had a great talk about bugs and insects.
We found out that insects have only 6 legs.
Now we know whether a bug is an insect or not.
We decided to sort out our box of bugs.
We put the insects in one group and the other bugs in the other group. Then we sorted all our bugs according to colour…..
...whether they have wings or not…..…..whether they eat grass or other insects/animals...….whether they have one colour or more than one colour...

It was very interesting.

Making 3D shapes

3D Shapes, Monday, 18th February, 2008
We made 3D shapes from matchsticks and blue tack.
Can you see our cube, our triangular pyramid and our square pyramid?
The pyramids were both stronger than the cube when teacher pushed down on them with her hand.
We made the same shapes with magnetic shapes (rods and spheres).
We tried making the shapes with marshmallows too. That was fun but very messy. Marshmallows are so sticky!

Our Human Number Line

Senior Infants in Room 5 are practicing the words before and after. We are using the number line and deciding where numbers come on the line. We have a human numberline and we play a swapping game. For instance someone who has no number can swap with the person who has the number that comes before 8 etc.
