This week we have been learning about 2D shapes. The shapes we are learning about are circles, squares , rectangles, triangles and semicircles. On Thursday, we went for a walk to find shapes in our environment. We saw lots of shapes and had lots of fun looking. Take a look ....

Mini beast maths
We learned lots about bugs, insects and minibeasts today.
Some of the bugs we looked at are really good for the environment. Ladybirds eat aphids and other garden pests, worms are great for the soil, bees make honey and pollinate flowers and spiders kill flies.
Some of our bugs are bad bugs. Flies spread disease, praying mantis kill other little insects, scorpions can sting, ants can bite and bees and wasps can sting (though they really only bite us, or sting us if they are afraid).
We know that insects have six legs and two body parts (and often have wings).
We sorted our bugs into sets of insects and non insects.
We also made a 3D data chart of our mini beasts. Usually we make data charts with pictures but today we used the model insects to show how many of each we have. We sorted, classified, and lined up our bugs and then we compared groups. We had the most spiders and the least number of blue bottle flies and worms.
As well as learning lots of science we also learned lots of maths by playing with our mini beasts.
We are learning to love real mini beasts too, not just the plastic models.

Pattern activities
We are working on patterns at the moment in Maths. We had to be great detectives today, and work out and finish the patterns, teacher had on the board. We also worked with pegs and peg boards, and links, and we had to copy the patterns we saw. Tomorrow we will be making up our own patterns.

Shape snap game
We all played a really fun game of Shape Snap.
It is played like the regular game of snap only you have to shout the name of the shape as well as snap.
We are learning the names of all the shapes.
